One UI 4.0: Slight Visual Upgrade?

 

Samsung has finally begun rolling out the beta of One UI 4.0 which is a skin based on Android 12. Given the design overhaul of android 12, many individuals were eager to see how Samsung will incorporate the design language into their already seamless One UI skin. Well, it is safe to say that the end result was nothing if not excessively underwhelming.

The major feature of android Material You was the adaptive color. In essence, widgets and icons will change their themed color depending on the wallpaper and the theme currently applied. The feature is noticeably absent from One UI 4.0. It is important to note that Samsung has introduced some degree of visual changes. For instance; widgets are now flat with rounded corners. Additionally certain widgets such as the dual clock change appearance depending on the time of day. Icons are dimmed when in dark mode; a feature that is springing up mixed reactions.

Other tweaks have been made on the lock screen, notifications, and also stock applications such as the Galaxy Store. While Samsung has indeed introduced a sizeable upgrade, the overall look and feel are still reminiscent of the previous one UI 3.5. The change isn't anywhere near the overhaul experienced from android 11 to 12. It is important to note that this is the first iteration of the beta and it isn't the final build. Samsung may introduce those Material You features in later builds. We may have to keep our fingers crossed.
